Goodbye Summer Break, Hello Back to School!

Summer nearing to an end and many of us are gearing into “back-to-School” mode!  We hope you have enjoyed the summer and took time to indulge in all that summer has to offer; lazy days poolside, drive to the beach, maybe a favorite fishing hole, or was it a destination getaway?

If you still have shopping to do, this is the weekend to take advantage of the tax free savings.  Tax-free applies to items under $100 including most backpacks and school supplies in addition to clothes and shoes – no jewelry, purses, rolling backpacks without straps, luggage, or cosmetics.

A Couple of Community Events to Note:

GE Run Thru the Woods!

Registration is open for the YMCA 25th Annual GE Run Thru the Woods on Thanksgiving morning.  If you haven’t participated in this event, time to register! It is a holiday tradition and takes place in The Woodlands Town Center.  Sponsored by GE, it is a family event with something for everyone – competitive 1 mile children’s race, a 5 mile, a 3 Mile Race and the 3 mile family.

Proceeds benefit youth charities in Montgomery County including the South Montgomery County YMCA Partners Scholarship program, Operation Graduation, Conroe ISD AFJROTC Program, and the Education Outreach Program at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.  In 2013 there were more than 5,700 participants and over $180,000 raised!  Not to worry, all participants will be provided a pancake breakfast by another local icon – The Egg and I!

The 16th Annual YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge

Dragon Boat Races at Northshore Park are September 25th-28th.  For more information about this exciting community event, please visit www.ymcadragonboat.org.  Proceeds from this event will provide programs and services for children, teens, adults and families with limited resources. Show your support while having fun and let’s help the YMCA reach their goal!!
