Celebrating 4th of July in The Woodlands 2014!

With so much to do, celebrating 4th of July should be nothing short of Spectacular! If you live in Spring, you may be lounging pool side enjoying family and friends with an outdoor barbecue just waiting to light some colorful fireworks with your neighbors after dusk.  Or, you may be considering a visit to Old Town Spring to enjoy live bands, shopping, dining, and fireworks.  Galveston, well there is much to be said of the various ways to celebrate along the Gulf of Mexico! Moody Gardens, the Pleasure Pier, on the beach, or maybe you have your own private getaway.

Here in The Woodlands, we start early!  On Thursday, July 3rd to be exact, and we don’t stop until midnight the following day through the 4th!  If you don’t have plans set in stone, take a peak at the list of ways to celebrate around the villages in The Woodlands….you just might want to change things up!

Star-Spangled Salute

Celebrating our Nation’s Birthday begins on Independence Eve, July 3rd, 2014 with a selection of patriotic favorites performed by the Houston Symphony – “Star-Spangled Salute” at The Cynthia Mitchell Pavilion.  This is a free event and sure to finish with a big bang!  Gates open at 6:30pm and the concert begins at 8:00pm.

Fourth of July Parade

This year’s 4th of July Parade theme is “The Lone Star – Brightest of Them All”. Wear your best red, white and blue and arrive early to get your seats for this event! The parade begins at 9:00am and will feature commercial floats, marching bands, fire engines, clowns, and horses. The 1.3 mile route through Town Center area and Market Street begins and ends at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. The spectacle of events will offer something for family members of all ages! Please note:  roads will be closed during the parade.

Splash Day

If you need a place to cool off before the evening festivities, you can visit one of the 14 community pools in The Woodlands for Splash Day.  The lifeguards at each pool select special themes and offer free activities and refreshments.  Pools will be free to all residents from 10:00am – 8:00pm.  Activities will begin at 12 noon and end at 4:00pm.

Duck Race!

The Montgomery County Emergency Assistance (MCEA) will hold its Annual Duck Race!  This even begins at 3:00pm and will be held at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in The Village of Creekside Park.  An estimated 6,000 ducks will race down lazy river at the waterpark for prizes.  Ducks may be adopted at several locations and festivals throughout the county including at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center on the day of the event.  Ducks are also available online for adoption at www.DuckRace.com/TheWoodlands

Concert in the Park at Waterway Square

Pack a picnic and bring your lawn chairs to Waterway Square on Friday, July 4, 2014, for a FREE concert in the park. Enjoy an evening of great live music by KAOS & The Spicolis, beginning at 5:30 p.m., featuring patriotic activities.

Red, Hot & Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza

Head to Town Green Park and along The Woodlands Waterway® for the 17th Annual Red, Hot & Blue Festival on Friday, July 4, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Bring your family and friends for a festival filled with live music, face painting, strolling performers, children’s activities, H-E-B hot dog and watermelon eating contests, vendor booths, concessions and much more! Coolers are not allowed inside Town Green Park for the Red, Hot & Blue Festival.

The Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by BBVA Compass, will begin at dusk (approximately at 9:10 p.m.) and will be launched from Town Green Park and Waterway Square!

Best viewing will be at Town Green Park, Waterway Square and along The Woodlands Waterway®. This new location makes for more expanded parking and new viewing spots. Complete details can be found here and a full map of fireworks viewing can be found here.

The Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza are brought to you in part by The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau, Strike, Dr. Ray McLendon’s Clear Choice Orthodontic Associates and BBVA Compass.

 Attendees should note that viewing locations from previous years will not be available in 2014 due to the new launch locations; including Northshore Park, Southshore Park, viewing points along The Woodlands’ golf courses, Lamar Elementary, The Woodlands Mall, Market Street and all areas east of Interstate 45.

ROAD CLOSURES

Waterway Square Place will be closed beginning at 3:00 p.m. on July 4 and will remain closed through 12 a.m. on July 5. The Waterway Square Place road closure will start at the intersection of Waterway Avenue and extend to Fountain Plaza. Access to the Waterway Square Parking Garage will be open on both east and west entrances.
