Go Astros! World Series Champions 2017 Victory Parade Downtown Houston Tomorrow!
Houstonians will be in full celebration tomorrow as we pay homage to our first ever World Series Champions! There will be a victory parade in downtown Houston at 2 p.m.
The parade staging area between Smith and I-45 underpass on outbound Allen Parkway will close to traffic at noon. Allen Parkway inbound at Taft will be closed at 1 PM. McKinney exit off 1-45 South will be closed at 1 PM. Allen Parkway exit off I-45 South will remain open. Feel free to enjoy the parade at any point of the route!
Route: The procession will kick off at the intersection of Smith Street and Lamar Street before heading up Smith and making turns on Walker Street, Milam Street and Pease Street, according to the Houston Chronicle. The parade will end back at Smith and Lamar, and the festivities will finish with a City Hall rally.
HOUSTON – About 500,000 people are expected to attend Friday’s parade in downtown Houston to celebrate the first World Series title for the Astros.
Organizers said the ticker-tape parade will run along a route that is tried and true, hosting previous events like the city’s Thanksgiving parade.
About a ton of confetti will rain down on the world champion Astros from 20 different sites as they march through downtown, organizers said.
Attendees: The championship-winning Astros players are expected to join the celebrations. KTRK reported the team’s mascot, Orbit; its owner, Jim Crane; and its manager, A.J. Hinch, will also participate. But everyone is invited, especially if they’re wearing Astros gear.
Parking: Due to Hurricane Harvey, many of the garages downtown are not available. Please consider taking the MetroRail or using PARK & RIDE for the celebration. Street parking around the route is CLOSED. Please look for emergency no parking signs before parking. Cars will be towed for security purposes. Security: Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted that his officers will be on hand Friday “to help everyone be safe.”
